Playstation 3: Failure

Yeah. I’m a woman and I love games.

I love them. I love playing them and I love winning. Unfortunately, the eagerly anticipated Playstation 3 release has left me wanting. :-( Having been raised on Atari, Nintendo, GameBoy, Sega-Genesis, Super-Nintendo, Playstation1 & 2, Nintendo64, X-Box,… yes I’ve probably owned (or still do) or have a sibling with every game system ever invented.

Unfortunately, Playstation makes very few games for women anymore. They have some original favorites… like Bubble Bobble with a twist… but overall they don’t market games women would like. I like fast paced logic games and collecting objects games, like Tetris or Tak. I like SouthPark Road Rally and Mickey’s Speedway. But sometimes we just want to play a new game with a female heroine that kicks butt but doesnt look like a porn-star. Problem is… Playstation doesnt make a lot of games I’d like.

So… I wrote them an email telling them how they might better serve their customers.

“I’ve been very disappointed that it has taken so long for the Playstation 3 to come out. I was ready to buy one 4 years ago and eagerly anticipated it’s release. Unfortunately, the playstation 3 has not lived up to my expectations. I am a 25 year old woman and I love games. Personal favorites include SuperMario Bros. Zelda, Tetris, racing games, disney games… I think Playstation has ignored the huge demographic of women gamers who have been raised on Atari, Nintendo, Playstation throughout their entire lives. I feel there are few games I would buy for myself and therefore find it not worth buying the game system. I play some at a friends house when they have a game I’d like to try. I think your company would profit more if you targeted the people who are purchasing these game systems, the women, for both their children and husbands. Do you know how many men out there would have one but their wives say “no” simply because there is nothing in a $600 purchase for them! Like I said, we would have one except… Playstation doesnt make games I like. So, we’re going to buy a Nintendo Wii instead. I suggest getting a female panel together and marketing team together. I look forward to seeing something interesting to me in the future from playstation. But I wont hold my breathe.”

And… I’m getting myself a Wii… because nintendo has not disappointed me yet… I’ll let you know how it works out. :-)
