Craaaazy!
So I’m getting ready for bed… when I hear a cat mewing to come inside. I look for Gink, and he’s safe and sound inside. I hear kids screaming outside so I figure they might be chasing a cat and I go out on our porch to investigate. Paul has the backyard light on and the second I step out onto the porch a big black and white cat runs from our neighbors yard towards the street. I call out to it to see if it will stop but it doesn’t even turn. I figure it was just too scared to stop.
What a beautiful night I say to myself and sigh. There is a rustling in the tree that disturbs me and I cant explain why. I figure it’s another damn squirrel. I’ve had it with those cute little rodents that tear up my garden and leave the effects of their meals all over my yard (not to mention my windowsills). I calm again taking in the summer night air, then *poof* Paul turned out the light. As my eyes adjusted to the darkness I realized it’s kinda hazy, muggy like. I look at how beautiful our yard looks in the dark. I look at how crappy our neighbor’s yard looks. I smile in simple satisfaction that I worked hard to get our yard to look halfway decent. Then out of the corner of my eye… I spot a movement below.
My first reaction is “Aw, what a cute little cat. That must have been fighting with the other cat” Then slowly as it moves oddly and begins walking away it registers to me “That’s NO cat!” My eyes dart up and down it’s body, from its big poofy tail with a white tip to it’s sleek bright orangish red body as it meanders away… “Holy crap, that was a fox!” I run back inside to tell Paul. He asks for a full description, and sure enough he agrees. I grab my coat and want to go warn the children to keep away, Paul assures me that it’ll be fine so I don’t. Besides, it’ll prob make them curious and I don’t know who I fear for most, the children or the fox.
I think living in the city, I’ve seen more “wild-life” than I ever did in the ‘burbs. Huh. Makes ya think.
My last thought on this “I saved a kitty!” *does a little dance* ![]()
